Curve Restart Announcement

Some Ultimate Frisbee players hanging out during a training session

It’s been a long 5 months, but we’re FINALLY back in a position where we can do Curve practices again. This announcement lays out the details of how it’s going to work – if you’d like to start throwing a frisbee round with us again, read on!

WHEN AND WHERE

We have started doing practices on Sundays in Victoria Park (https://w3w.co/ground.earth.owls), from 14:00-15:30. Traditionally we’d play in Clissold Park at this time of year, but because of the lack of summer league this year there are no lines painted there and the quality of the ground is not very good at the moment.

SIGNING UP

If you want to come along to the sessions you MUST SIGN UP! You can do so via this form: https://www.supersaas.com/schedule/curveultimate/Curve_Training. We need people to sign up so that we have their contact details for the Government’s Track and Trace scheme. Your contact details will not be used for any other purpose.

SESSION STRUCTURE

We’re currently in Phase B of the UKU’s plan for returning to play (see https://www.ukultimate.com/story/return_play_update_12th_aug for more details). As part of that, there are some limits on the things we’re allowed to do in training sessions. In particular, we are currently not allowed to do any games or drills that involve tight marking. That’s a bit of a shame and as soon as we are able to run actual games we’ll look to do so.

In the meantime, we’re running drills to practice technique and movement, as well as doing some games that don’t involve marking to get the competitive juices flowing!

SESSION RULES

– Don’t sign up if you have any COVID-19 symptoms.

– If you have any symptoms between signing up and playing, please don’t come.

– You won’t be allowed to play if you haven’t signed up.

– Feel free to bring discs with you as you normally would. At the beginning of the session we’ll get all the discs together and clean them (we’ll provide wet wipes for this purpose), and then we’ll clean them regularly throughout the practice.

– Bring your own water and ideally label your bottle with your name. We don’t want people to share.

– When we have to talk or discuss, we’re going to try to be socially distanced. Rather than huddling we’ll look to circle up with enough space to keep our distance.

– Try and avoid high fives in favour of elbow taps or similar.

– If you have a choice, try to make your way to the practice by cycling or walking over using public transport.

– Please bring a mask with you. You hopefully won’t need to wear it, but in the case of an injury or similar it will be useful to have them so that people can help you out.

– The UKU asks us to remind you to refrain from spitting, rinsing out your mouth or blowing your nose near the playing area. Hopefully not something we’ll have too much trouble with!.

THE FUTURE

Hopefully the UKU will OK full games and marking in the near future. Once that happens, we’ll start doing pickup games in Clissold Park on weeknights. Stay tuned for more! —> Curve Ultimate Facebook Group.
